Music and tridosha( vatta, pitta, kapha basics of Ayurveda) are also linked very closely. Several ragas help in correcting these tridoshas which in turn promotes good health.
Music therapy has been around since ancient times.
This story tells how music eases a broken heart and emotional pain.

Saul Stricken With Melancholy
Almost simultaneously with the anointment of [King] David, [King] Saul was stricken with an evil spirit which threw him into a deep melancholy. The king's friends and courtiers noticed this sudden change and advised him to seek a good musician to ease his mind with the strains of sweet music. David, the future Psalmist, had already become known for his wonderful music as well as for his divine poetry. David was summoned to the king's court, where his sweet music on the harp helped to set the king's troubled mind at ease. Little did Saul know that the young lad who was playing before him was destined to be his successor.

ON THE HARP AND ITS ACCOMPANIMENTS AMONG THE ANCIENTS

"Music has charms to soothe the savage breast"

The phrase was coined by William Congreve, in The mourning bride, 1697:
Musick has Charms to sooth a savage Breast,

To soften Rocks,
or bend a knotted Oak.

I've read, that things inanimate have mov'd,

And, as with living Souls,
have been inform'd,

By Magick Numbers and persuasive Sound.

What then am I?
Am I more senseless grown

Than Trees, or Flint?
O force of constant Woe!

'Tis not in Harmony to calm my Griefs.

Anselmo sleeps,
and is at Peace; last Night

The silent Tomb receiv'd the good Old King;

He and his Sorrows now are safely lodg'd

Within its cold, but hospitable Bosom.

Why am not I at Peace?

Music therapy assists with pain reduction, coping with stress, easing depression, aiding memory loss and stimulating the immune system, according to the American Music Therapy Association. It is used in conjunction with conventional medicine, functioning largely as a psychological aid. Music therapy can involve rhythmic drumming, singing, instrument playing, or listening to recorded or live music — experiences that engage a person musically and socially.
Sometimes music plays a great role as an adjuvant in the pathway towards cure.

I have found one such evidence in a case treated Homoeopathically. I don't think it would be irrelevent here to post.

The following case was published in BRITISH JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY, 1856, Pp.- 602 & 603.
Name of the Article : “On Manual Magnetism”
Author : Dr. Chapman

........................ARINDAM
What a wonderful addition. Today, this child would have been diagnosed with Autism or ADHD or some other label. This prescription 'to be magnetized' is fascinating and wondering exactly what the nurse was instructed to do? Or is it the music that is magnetic? Or stroking the patient with the hand, as intimated?
Wow Thank you everyone for this lovely Discussion. I had NO idea people were posting here. Sorry I have to manually log in and find the discussion.
Regards this: On the opposite side-negative effects of music? Any comments?
Here is a good one, what are some rubics? I know a person that ONLY likes his "own" music or the music "he plays" on his CD's. If another plays music, any type of music even if it's his type of music he gets angry/irritable. Even if this music is so far away no one else can clearly hear it, he gets annoyed by it.
Hi Gina. This sensitive person reminds me of someone who cringes with crinkling of paper and such. I know I've come across a rubric for that. Must look it up. P.S. Gina, don't forget to click the little BLUE RSS Button in the lower left of your screen to get updates or the lower right ENVELOPE 'FOLLOW' button to get notices in your email.
Awesome collection, This will certainly go into my collection very informative, Thanks for posting. Nice addition Dr. Dutta.
My "follow discussion envelope"does not work, near has debby
This is an interesting point of view - thank you for gathering all kinds of things together. In my mind there is so much about music now. How about tinnitus and things irritating ears`? Could they be connected to music any way? If there has been a loud noisy music before damages in the ears I suppose the ailments from the music or noise should be the rubric. But if there hasn't been loud music, only normal and tinnitus or voices after that?
Back at the family front, every mother would have observed the effects of lullabies. They work like homeo medicine and soothe the tiny tot.  Also one might have observed that they react negatively to certain lullabies and want only what they like.  At that tender age, how do they differentiate between what they like and what they do not like?  It is a mystery only psychologists can explain!

THE SOUND OF MUSIC :

Homoeopathy is a science & art both..
The role of Music is very vast in our life & for treating a pt . the role is very high in nature which provide peace & fast recovery both .
Importance of Various Indian Raags in Healing :

7- Raag Darbari – For Tension & Asthama
8- Raag Aheer & Todi – For High BP , Headache & Anger

There is always an importance of Music in Modalities (aggravation & amelioration both ).

Now it’s a matter... how you took interest & manage the things related with Music ?

The ways we provide music to the people:-

1- During case taking, if I find anything interesting regarding music then after a brief discussion we provide Tracks according to requirement & interest shown by the pt.

2-The Pt. sitting in my clinic used to listen various musical tracks . Sometimes they ask for a particular track or album & after counseling we provide their liking.

3-We have created so many tracks also remixed several compositions of others for various moods & purposes . We have so many titles/compositions of Great composers of India & abroad : Gurudev Ravindra Nath Tagore , Pt.Ravi Shankar , Anand Shankar , Luies Banks, Pt. Shiv Kr. Sharma , Pt. Jasraj , Pt. Hari Prasad Chowrasiya ,Ustad Amjad Ali Khan , Ustad Bismillah Khan ,Ustad Zakir Hussein, Sunil Ganguli ,Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt. Ajoy Chakraworty,Begum Abida parveen, Shantanu Banerjee, Phil Collins, Brian Silas, Abhijeet Pahonkar,Rupak Kulkarni,Neeladri Kumar &...& so many ….

We have theme based various titles & albums of : Music Today , Sa-Re-Ga-Ma, RPG,..etc. in our Music Bank , which are very helpful for treating the pt.

We have also created few Albums for local people :

1-Dusk to Dawn ( For Pt., who are bed ridden from a long time )
2-Aao Prarthana Karen ( Daily Morning Prayers for School Children )
3-Aman ( For Communal Harmony & Selected for National Kabir Award 2011 )

We charge only Rs.20 or Rs.30 for a CD & some times we distribute these albums free of cost to the local people for various purposes ( Social , Health, Education, Awareness & Communal Harmony ).

During beginning of practice the task was not so easy because of less technical support & so many other factors . Now I have a good team & we have all technical supports including Modern sound / recording studio , Music bank , Radio network etc.

Hope this will help you All .
Play Good Music in your Clinic . Do take interest in….The sound of Music ….The Music of Life & Humanity…..& do some thing different for your Pt. & for yourself also….:-)
Thanks.....& God Bless you ALL.....

Dear Dr Prabhat ~ The synchronicity of reawakening this discussion on music so fits the day. First, I saw your post on FaceBook on this message and simultaneously wrote the Whale Song article. Then, today, listening to Dr Jayesh Shah speak on his case-taking method, he introduces the concept of playing musical interludes to his patients while they are in a trance-like deep state in touch with their vital force. He says this music helps them go deeper into meditation and heal. All comes together at once.
