Creating Waves of Awareness
On the basis of bowel habits, we can classify the individuals into three categories:
Constipated People: Constipation is due to constriction of muscles and dryness of mucus membranes. There is suppression of desire to defecate. When the constriction of the mind goes to the rectal muscles, it leads to constipation.
Diarrheic People: They have no power to hold anything. They are basically powerless to face a situation. Similarly, the circular muscles can’t hold the contents in the rectum. Like their mental and emotional features, everything comes out in splashes!
Altered Bowel Habits: Here, constipation alternates with diarrhea. Similarly, their mind also fluctuates between opposite ideas and situations.
There is a hidden relationship between the mental features of certain remedies with the character of stools mentioned in the Materia Medica. It may be the different levels of expression of the similimum. But, such type of relationship is not always seen in most of the remedies. The relationship seen in some remedies are discussed here, because this approach helps to study Materia Medica.
Here, there is constipation with no urge to pass stool. Similarly, the Opium patient has no desires and complaints. The stool of Opium is dark colored. The mind is also dark.
The stool of silicea comes out partially and goes back (Shy stools). Similarly, the patient also expresses shyness.
Lycopodium stool is hard first, but comes easily when it becomes loose later. Similarly, the patient feels difficult to start one task, but he does every thing smoothly when he overcomes the starting trouble.
The stool of Pulsatilla is changeable. Similarly, changeability is expressed in the mind and behavior.
In Nux vom, patient is unsatisfied; there is frequent urge to pass stools. The same urge is there in performing duties and achieving goals. He is also unsatisfied with others, and there is marked fault finding nature.
There are certain remedies having just opposite relations:
Here the stool is narrow. But the patient is not narrow-minded; he is very open-minded and friendly.
The list never ends here. You can add more – both similarities and dissimilarities...

Ameliorated by combing (headache)- Formic acid.
How to remember this: When ants (ants inject formic acid) get trapped on the scalp, combing is the easy method to remove them!
Ameliorated by fish: Lac can.
How to remember this: Even a barking dog becomes silent by offering a piece of fish!
There are different ways to remember materia medica....

Permalink Reply by Dr Muhammed Rafeeque on May 16, 2011 at 6:54am Sensitive to the music of Violin: Viola odorata is the only remedy in the repertory.
How to remember this?
Violin and viola looks similar!
Permalink Reply by Debby Bruck on July 21, 2012 at 6:45pm Dear Dr Rafeeque ~ Can you further explain, "sensitive to violin music?" In what way sensitive? They enjoy it? They sway with it or is it like scratching fingernails on the blackboard?

Permalink Reply by Dr Muhammed Rafeeque on July 31, 2012 at 6:24am In the repertory, sensitive usually has a negative influence (aggravation). Even in aggravation my violin, Viola is given. So it is definitely aggravation.
Great work
