Potency Selection Has Some Rules
Some of my personal observations indicate that certain homeopaths give only the 30 potency to every patient after selecting the homeopathic similimum. They give multiple repetitions of this remedy at a 30C potency and if any new complaints arise they repeat the same dose with same potency.
Once they select any similimum it becomes the patient's medicine for lifetime. Every time the patient comes to the clinic for different complaints they repeat the same dose i.e 30
For example, if I selected lycopodium, it becomes my medicine for a lifetime for any of my complaints. They also say that they have treated many pathological cases. They build their own homeopathic hospital with bravado that they practice classical homeopathy.
These are my two questions:
Is this classical homoeopathy?
Was this method told by Hahnemann in any of his writings?

This is not complete homoeopathy, but a part of homoeopathy, but prescription of medicine in 30 potency is the safe prescription.

giving only the 30 potency to every patient after selecting the homeopathic similimum is not accepting my mind.Though the 30 is safe potency but what about age, sex and the susceptibility of the patients.
Stuart Close gives the following considerations that influence the choice of the dose -
1. The greater the characteristic symptoms of the drug in the case, the greater the susceptibility to the remedy and the higher the potency required.
2. Age: medium and higher potencies for children
3. Higher potencies for sensitive, intelligent persons.
4. Higher potencies for persons of intellectual or sedentary occupation and those exposed to excitement or to the continual influence of drugs.
5. In terminal conditions even the crude drugs may be required
He also writes “Different potencies act differently in different cases and individuals at different times under different conditions. All may be needed. No one potency, high or low, will meet the requirement of all cases at all times.”
Curie opines that in acute diseases the low dilutions are to be preferred but in chronic diseases, the high dilutions promise greater success.

So we see that in spite of differences in the guidelines for potency selection, most modern homeopaths have some agreement on the factors which influence the selection of potency. These include -
1. Certainty about the remedy chosen
2. Kingdom of the medicine (source)
3. Age of the patient
4. Gender of the patient
5. Occupation of the patient
6. Sensitivity of the patient
7. Vitality of the patient
8. Nature of the patient
9. Type of disorder – Functional or Pathological.
10. Severity of Pathology
11. Acute or Chronic nature of the disease
12. Clarity and abundance of mental symptoms
13. Type of response desired – palliation or cure
14. Level of proving
15. Nature of drug
16. Miasm of the patient

Dear Dr, The above are several good points for consideration. ButI do not think any prescriber has that much time for pondering over so many details, or, he has understood the patient and his background. Similimum with all physical mental and general symptoms is the most important. and then the doctor has experience in the general potency as a first dose. 30 C is the one I usually select and wait for further indications.I generally have one more point for the above list. Is the problem more mental or more physical? I try higher potency for more mental case and lower potency for more physical case, 30 C being the middle potency bordering on low and high potency. Some times it works and so I am not very sure. I am just sharing this with the community so I get some more inputs.

Sir I am with your opinion because selection of medicine on present totality is the best way and which is told by our master.Life time medicine is foolish criteria that what i belives. In any acute diseases a new medicine of present totality is require. May A constitutional Aur met of person in acute condition he will not require aconite but not arum met. And potency depend upon the sensitivity and reactivity of the person. May it be 6x or LM.

As I read, LM potencies were first used by Dr Patel in his Kerala clinic. Not much is known except that the potencies do not aggravate the case and they can be given several times a day and for even a month.
Dr Hans, please give us your considered differences between LM potencies and other centismal potencies. It can be very useful. You must be using them frequently.

For reference I refer you to the Organon 6th, edition, which you surely have on your bookshelf.
There, Hahnemann explains in great detail the "Q-potencies", as he calls them, in fact he does mention the C-potency there as being outdated and obsolete.

- Posology is still a debatable issue in Homoeopathy.
- None of us can claim any thing for sure in terms of potency usage. There are advocates of high potency and low potencies. Each set claims fairly good success with their potency selection.
- Personally I am of the opinion that selection of simillimum is much more important than potency.

Dr vithoulkas say if the medicine is exact similimum it will act in any potency even in mother tincture also. It depend on acute ness and chronicity of disease .If you want result fast use higher potency.

Of course! The selection of remedy is of prime importance. We are pondering over which potency to select and why? Are there any set rules or will any potency work? In what cases the higher potency or the lower potency aggravate? What should be done to avoid aggravation? What are the experiences of the regular practitioners? Of course this subject was also discussed earlier.
