Would like to mention few more things on card repertory.

There are few more card repertories along with Boger, Kishore & Sankaran.

In 1922 FIELD'S CARD REPERTORY got published; also called as Magnum Opus.
More than 6800 cards. Based on Kent's repertory with few additions.
Remedies are indicated in the card by code numbers.

Year 1948. Dr.Marcoz Jemenes card repertory, based on Boenninghausen's work.

In Year 1950 three card repertories got published, they were
1. J.G.Weiss card repertory.
2. R.H.Farley's spindle card repertory: Based on philosophy of Dr.Kent.
Having paucity of general rubrics.
3. Dr. Sankaran's card repertory: An additional attempt of Dr.Sankaran to increase
The usefulness of Boger's card repertory by adding more rubrics and remedies.
Having 2 parts: The pocket repertory & Sankaran's cards

Dr. Jugal Kishore's Card repertory was published in year 1959. It is based on Kent's work. There are 10000 cards and 742 medicines.

Having gradation of medicines in different type of punched cards.
This card has 80 vertical columns from 1 _ 80 from Lt. to Rt. They are numbered at the bottom in small letters.
1st four vertical columns are kept apart and meant for punching the number of the rubrics. They are not divided by vertical lines.
Number of rubrics on Lt. top corner, in this four column numbers punched so that there is no confusion even if the card is mixed / mutilated.
On the top of the card rubric name is printed.
The rest of the vertical columns are meant for the coded remedies which have this particular symptom. The remedies are indicated by the punched holes.
Reading : The Punched number (any number from 0-9) is placed against the small digit placed at the bottom of the column that particular hole. The remedy can be obtained from the list of " Remedies and their code numbers ".
All the grades can be denoted by the shape of the punched hole.
Double hole . 3 mark
Oval . 2 mark
Round . 1 mark
THE YEAR- 1832

This year was a milestone, as far as the evolution of Homoeopathic Repertory is concerned. As I have mentioned in my earlier post, Boenninghausen's concept of REPERTORIZATION started to creep in over mere indexing of symptoms, from this point, when Boenninghausen published his first work- “Repertory of the antipsoric medicines”.

Hahnemann wholeheartedly accepted Boenninghausen's idea. Hahnemann gave a detailed foreword for this book. Although the topic of that foreword was altogether different from the context; it was on dose & potency.

In his preface to this repertory, Boenninghausen stated that a similar elaboration of the remaining Homoeopathic remedies had already begun, and only interrupted because of his busy schedule. By this statement Boenninghausen probably meant his forthcoming work- “Repertory of the medicines which are not antipsorics”.

INITIALLY, BOENNINGHAUSEN WAS RELUCTANT TO PUBLISH HIS - "REPERTORY OF THE ANTIPSORIC MEDICINES"

At first, Boenninghausen compiled this work and limited to the remedies mentioned in the first three volumes of Hahnemann's "Chronic Diseases". At that time, a systematic production of Dr. Hartlaub and of Dr. Weber appeared in print. These works were similar in arrangements. Dr. Earnst Ferdinand Rueckert also published his repertory at that time. Therefore Boenninghausen thought not to publish the work. He used it in his daily practice. His Homoeopathic friends urged him to publish the work. So Boenninghausen started to add to the manuscript, the leading remedies in the fourth volume of "Chronic Diseases" and published it in 1832.

After the appearance of the first edition, only approximately six months had elapsed and a second edition was demanded. This fact shows how popularity the work gained at that time.

In its second edition, Boenninghausen appended the antisyphilitic remedy- Mercury and the antisycotic remedy- Thuja.

AUTHOR : H. C. Allen

TYPE : Therapeutics and Special Repertory

REPERTORIAL PART : “Repertory” ( Pp.- 258 to340)

Inspired by the publication of Dr. Bell's unique monograph on Diarrhoea, Dr. H. C. Allen started to collect data on Intermittent Fevers from homoeopathic literatures and from his own and friends' practice. Ultimately he compilled this present work. After its second edition the author altered and added many things and published another edition in 1902, but the title of the book was changed to :
“Therapeutics of Fevers”

2)

“Consumption : Its cause and nature to which is added the therapeutics of
Tubercular affections”

REPERTORIAL PART : “Repertory” (Pp.- 373 to 477)

The work was started by Rollin R. Gregg. But his sudden death prevented its completion. In the year 1887, it was published without any therapeutics part. Later, Dr. H. C. Allen wrote the therapeutics part along with the repertory and published it in the year 1889. The first 179 pages were written by Dr. Gregg and the remainder of the book was completed by Dr. Allen.

In its preface the author stated- “ The author is deeply grateful to his colleagues, specially in India where fever of every type are endemical, for their commendation of the monograph on Intermittent Fevers. DR. R. E. DUDGEON AND REPERTORY

Most of us remember Dr. Dudgeon (1820 - 1904) as the translator of the 5th edition of Organon. But he was also an innovative contributor in different contemporary journals on Homoeopathy.

As far as the Repertory is concerned, Dr. Dudgeon compiled at least three repertories:

1)

TITLE :
“A Repertory or the systematic arrangements and analysis of the Homoeopathic Materia Medica”

AUTHORS : Drs. Drysdale, Atkins, Dudgeon & Stokes.

EDITION & PUBLISHER : 1st Edition- 1850; Publ.- Hahnemann Publishing Society.

ORIGINAL LANGUAGE : English.

TYPE : General Repertory.

IMPORTANT NOTES : The present work is also known as “Cipher Repertory”, “British Repertory”, “Pathogenetic Cyclopaedia”, “Repertory of the Hahnemann publishing society”,etc.

Part - I of the book was compiled by Dr. Dudgeon entirely in collaboration with Hahnemann publishing society in 1850.
Part – II was compiled by Drs. Drysdale, Atkins and Stokes in 1959 in collaboration with Hahnemann publishing society.

2)

TITLE :
“Hahnemann's Therapeutic Hints”

AUTHOR : R. E. Dudgeon.

EDITION & PUBLISHER : 1st Edition- 1894; Publ.- E. Gould & Sons, London.

ORIGINAL LANGUAGE :
English.

TYPE : General Repertory.

IMPORTANT NOTES : Many therapeutic hints are scattered in Hahnemann's books- “The Chronic Diseases”, “Materia Medica Pura” and “Organon”, and also in his letters at different times. In absence of the access of Hahnemann's case books, these materials were collected and arranged in a repertorial form by the author.

3)

TITLE :
“A Repertory to the Cyclopaedia of Drug Pathogenesy”.

AUTHOR : Richard Hughes

EDITION & PUBLISHER : 1st Edition- 1897; Publ.- E. Gould & Sons, London.

ORIGINAL LANGUAGE : English.

TYPE : General Repertory.

IMPORTANT NOTES : It is actually a repertory based on Drs. R. Hughes & J. P. Dake's Materia Medica- “The Cyclopaedia of Drug Pathogenesy”. Initially, the plan of the index of “Cyclopaedia...” was submitted by Dr. Hughes before the British Homoeopathic Congress in 1890 and before the International Homoeopathic Congress in 1891. Author started the work in 1891, after the publication of “Cyclopaedia...”. The whole of the Repertory was published in the form of fascicles. Part- I in 1897, Part- II in 1898, Part- III in 1899, and Part- IV in 1900. It is not merely an index of “Cyclopaedia...”, but a complete reference to Hahnemann's “Materia Medica Pura”, “Chronic Diseases” and “Fragmenta...”, too.

DR. DUDGEON helped the author enormously to compile the whole work.
