Creating Waves of Awareness
My family has been a friend of homeopathy for decades. Today my grandchildren are growing up with homeopathy around the house in the USA.
The other day I was taken aback by my grandson's question. He's 8 years old and in 3rd grade and asked me, "Nana what is homeopathy?" And again, "Grandpa what is homeopathy?" His next question was, "How does it work, does it work like Advil?"
I felt stumped, and then tried to explain to him as best as I could.
I gave him the story of the onion, that when one cuts the onion he or she starts with eyes burning, nose and eyes watering and sneezing.
These symptoms when found in any one who is coming down with a cold can be cured with onion which is made into a homeopathic medicine. Converting onion into a homeopathic medicine is a special procedure, which I told him I would explain later. Its like "like cures like." But, I could not convince him "How it works."
My question to the HWC members are, "How can we spread the basic information about homeopathy to our children, especially to those who do know the names and uses of often used home emergency medicines such as Arnica, Calendula, and Ipeccac?
There is need of story books about homeopathy and its founder Dr Hahnemann.

As you suggested, we need to have some story books or cartoon programmes to make the children understand Homeopathy. Of course, curing their problems is the best way, but people may to prefer homeopathy without some basic ideas, hence we need some methods to teach the general population.

I have never heard a single student saying, "My aim in life is to become a homeopath." Certainly "Do More & More, " is required to make awareness of homeopathy not only to our children but also to common people. (The comment represents Pakistani scenario )
Permalink Reply by Viktor Kalocsai on May 11, 2012 at 4:41pm Here in Hungary Homeopathic Doctors are telling Homeopathic Tales. Dr Katalin Kürti has a book about Homeopathy to children. Last weekend we were on a Homeopathy day in Budapest where we had a chance to listen on Katalin's few tales. Different remedies get a person whose personality is typical to that particular remedy and it gets a story for children... Very informative and easy to remember the Homeopathic remedies, which are associated to a person and his/her symptoms/traits.

It was great to learn from Viktor's post that story books on homeopathy for children exists;
I would love to have translation of those books in English, Urdu, Hindi and Bengali. Viktor will it be possible for you to translate some pages of the story as a sample for all of us?
Though some members have stated that the elders have to be given knowledge of homeopathy, yes I agree;
But that we should not ignore the potential that is in our children. Tomorrow as they grow up they will be equipped with some good and practical aspect of Homeopathy and when they are ready they will decide on the basis of its merit if they would become homeopaths of the future
In any family of homeopathic doctors where the parents are both homeopath, the children are bound to pick up certain aspect of homeopathy which keeps them sort of charged, specially if the parents have been interacting with them on the subject. I am sure some of those children will turn to homeopathy one day.

Dr Ferenc Sasvari and Dr Orsolya Farkas also have a book about Homeopathy with very cute and humorous drawings, which are suitable for children as well. The language they used in the book is the typical to Homeopathy: smart, descriptive way of approaching the people and the situations through the 'traits' of particular remedies.

Permalink Reply by Dr. Wequar Ali Khan on May 15, 2012 at 6:06pm Dr Rafeeque you have taken the first step, in the children's school or even at home if FLASH Cards are made dividing A to z say in equal parts and distributed amongst different group, then there can be some learning fun too.But this an evolving stage and we have to wait and see.
Behind the card some small story about the medicine can be added.
