Your Healthy Pet From the Holistic Perspective

Learning the basic principles is the key to using homeopathy in animals (and people, plants, etc). The same principles we discuss here will also apply to any other modality of treatment you choose.

I.  Read the Organon – I prefer the Wenda Brewster O’Reilly edition for clarity and ease of reading. Others prefer different translations. There is a free on-line version (unsure of translator) that is very searchable (“principles” or “dissimilar diseases”, etc)  (The Organon

II. Read the sections on the nature of disease and the nature of illness (Chapters 2 and 3) in Don Hamilton’s Homeopathic Care of Cats and Dogs. An abbreviated version of that is in a few pages in my book, The Healthy Animal’s Journal.

III. Take classes and keep listening to talks like this. Since this is not what we hear from most people around us, we need to keep repeating this studying. We will do several of these talks to get a complete understanding, then refer back to them as we look at specific problems.

PROGRESSION OF ILLNESS

1. The body tries to heal itself by producing symptoms (see below for more).
2. There is first an energetic imbalance, then physical manifestations.
   a. The energetic imbalance is observable only at an intuitive level
       “My dog is sick, I sense it. There are no symptoms.”
   b. Functional disturbance
       “My dog itches.” “My cat goes to the litter box frequently.”
   c. Inflammation – heat, pain, swelling, redness, lack of function.
       “My dog’s skin is hot, red, swollen, painful.” “My cat has pain urinating, he

can’t pass urine properly and the urinalysis shows red and white cells and                  bacteria.”
      d. Pathology or tissue changes - The skin is lichenified (thickened) and                         hyperpigmented. The bladder wall is thick and there are stones or crystals.

NATURE OF ILLNESS (from the Organon)

1. There is an energy field/vibrational pattern/ quantum field that is unique to each of us and to each animal.
   1. The goal of the Vital Force (VF) is to stay balanced.
   2. When the VF is out of balance we call it “diseased”.
   3. The VF produces symptoms to get back into balance.
   4. The VF is inherently and uniquely sensitive/susceptible to different triggers.
      1.  i.     One animal may be sensitive to vaccines and another not at all.
      2.  ii.     One may be sensitive to food dyes, another not.
      3.  iii.     One may be very sensitive to flea preventatives so the first dose makes them very ill. Another may be slightly sensitive so they do not get ill until the 5^th year of treatments, when they are also weakened from something else.
   5. The VF tends to produce symptoms in different body systems in different animals.
2. If the trigger is of a stronger amplitude and different from the current disease state, the VF produces symptoms from the trigger. Most dogs, if sensitive to Parvovirus, produce similar symptoms. If a drug, incorrect homeopathic remedy or other treatment  is stronger and different than the VF, it helps temporarily or harms. If “the new dissimilar disease is stronger…the weaker disease the patient already has is postponed and suspended…until the new one has run its course…and then the old one comes forth again uncured.” (Organon, aphorism 38, The Organon) You give a drug or a remedy and the current problem dissipates for a time and returns, often more severely.
3. If a remedy (or rarely a disease) is stronger and similar to the illness, cure results. ).  “The curative capacity of medicines therefore rests upon their symptoms being similar to the disease but with power that outweighs it … disease is …annihilated…only by a medicine that can engender…a totality of symptoms that is the most similar to the …disease. The medicine does need to “exceed the disease in strength.” (Organon, aphorism 27 The Organon)
4. If the trigger is of a weaker amplitude than the current disease state, the VF ignores it. Cats with asthma or IBD are unlikely to develop milder upper respiratory illnesses or digestive upsets. As they heal, they become more likely to get these transient illnesses.
5. THE TRIGGER DOES NOT CAUSE THE SYMPTOMS, the unique VITAL FORCE causes the symptoms in reaction to a trigger it is sensitive to. While most dogs exposed to Parvovirus will develop diarrhea and vomiting, only some cats fed a high carbohydrate diet will develop diabetes. While many animals develop symptoms after vaccination, their unique energetic weakness determines if they get cancer, asthma, autoimmune problems, warts, skin or other organ system problems. Therefore you need to resist the veterinary school training and Madison Avenue influence to give the magic bullet for a specific condition to all animals with that condition.

TO CURE

There is one on-going "disease,” not just separate, acute episodes. To really heal, the totality of symptoms must be addressed, not just the current problem(s). This treats the underlying imbalance (one disease). 

Baby, a 9 year old cat, had been receiving Depo Medrol injections for 8 years at an ever-increasing frequency, up to every 6 weeks, to keep the Feline Endocrine Alopecia under control. She was treated homeopathically for 9 months before the skin on her abdomen was free of lesions. She had no skin lesions from then until her death at 17 years. She has two episodes of acute problems when other cats in the house became ill, yet never needed homeopathic treatment again.

Isis, a Bengal cat, had chronic coughing since 6 weeks of age that was non-responsive to conventional treatment, yet in the face of this ill health her vaccines were continued. Six hours after getting her annual boosters at age 5, she had to be admitted to the hospital for oxygen with a severe asthma attack. With conventional treatment of 3-4 medications, she continued having asthmatic respiration with occasional hospitalizations for the next 2 years. Thuja, given carefully while she was withdrawn from drugs over one month, resolved the asthma problem and she had no conventional drugs, no asthmatic breathing and less coughing until she died at age 18. She was treated every 6 months or so to work at permanently curing her cough and a few minor skin issues. She had a rodent appear and disappear twice, then some skin issues, as the body worked through different remedies.
