Rabbi Yisroel Cotlar called in to join us and contribute his thoughts about bringing up balanced children. How do we speak to our children?
Contact Debby if you have any ideas, suggestions or would like to participate in any of our shows.
Please
contact Debby or
Dr Deepak Sharma if you have a special story you would like to tell.
Join us for an educational and introspective hour.
We discuss this controversial issue of disciplining children in contemporary society and the outcomes we can expect?
Has this generation changed from previous generations? Are children more aware, more outspoken, more assertive, more fearful, and more sensitive?
Research indicates that methods of punishment, like hitting, spanking and yelling, do not work at disciplining children today. Tempers flare when kids don't behave or cooperate. What's a parent to do?
Will homeopathy help a child's development when born into a family that feels the cultural norm includes physical and verbal modes of discipline?
Bring your stories.
Pink Floyd -- Another Brick In the Wall :: Lyrics :: We don't need no education.
We don't need no thought control.
No dark sarcasm in the classroom.
Teacher, leave those kids alone.
Hey, Teacher, leave those kids alone!
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.
We don't need no education.
We don't need no thought control.
No dark sarcasm in the classroom.
Teachers, leave those kids alone.
Hey, Teacher, leave those kids alone!

I want to bring two quotes together today and enable you to see both sides of the same coin. When training to improve behavior that begin with our thoughts, we consciously repeat the new and replace an old unproductive and non-therapeutic practice. If we realize our response in thoughts, words and actions create an unhappy space, then it may be time to create a new habit or ritual.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
~ Aristotle.
“ Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
~ Attributed to Einstein, but not verifies
What you do as an adult to form self discipline may be different than what method you will use on a developing child. You may be able to withstand a lot more stress and strain before cracking, but will your child undergo some transformation inside his or her depths that will take much longer to ameliorate? Is it true that you will become less vulnerable or will you become even more sensitive to outside forces?

Wow! Aristotle must have been on a roll for a very good day filled with ideas when he wrote this one, “ What it lies in our power to do, it lies in our power not do.”
~ Aristotle
I wonder how many of us can tap into the power of 'not-doing' as an action that can heal the world?

Permalink Reply by Dr. Wequar Ali Khan on July 5, 2012 at 8:07am I think if punishment does not work, one should look deeper into the child's behavior, as underlying factors such as AUTISM, ADHD may be there. These factors can not be ignored. Many parents are not willing to accept this that their child has some underlying problem.
The child learns from the environment in which he is living and interacting with others younger or older. One has to see all underlying factors. He may need support and counseling, and some psychological intervention.
Yes homeopathy will help if used with all the attention the child needs.

Permalink Reply by Seniya Stoilova - Sunlight on July 5, 2012 at 8:02pm Children are reflection of our society and at the same time its mirror. Punishment has never worked, but helps to deeply suppress the real reason bringing up an inappropriate behavior. There are many children with studying and behavioral difficulties ( Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD, stammering etc.) and the self defense mechanism most children show is anger, hatred, irritability, refusal to do study etc. Let's take a look at the TV programs for children or activities that take place at their daily life like computer games, cell phones ... And not last the fast food and artificial beverages widely advertised and used. For all those companies, health care system with established mandatory vaccination policy, the bottom line is not the children wellness, but the money they make. In cases like this homeopathy does help. Would always be an asset if the parents are aware and willing to change and educate about the long term vaccinations' side effects and how to respond to the child's emotions and get to the roots of the situation, but no punishment will help. It is not just a matter of theirs child discipline, or disorder. Why don't we take a look at the education and the methods in general ? Sometime the child is just different from what parents expect and so on... I would like to mention a homeopathic remedy made of an orchid An Elephant Ear in which proving I was involved in 2006 at Niagara Falls School of Homeopathy, Canada. This is a homeopathic remedy definitely helping in cases of ADHD.
