Creating Waves of Awareness
Nosode Background
The hardy Johneinum, bacterium Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis replicates in the intestine of the host and causes chronic inflammation of the intestines in many species. In animals, the resultant disease named Johnes’s disease typifies the Crohn’s wasting disease. Crohn's disease was originally thought to be a disease which bore a remarkable resemblance to intestinal tuberculosis, but was subsequently defined as a separate disease.
A Proving
The proving of the Johneiunum nosode was done by one of the leading homeopaths of the world, Dr. Louis Klein, on the suggestion of his student, Latifa Weinman, who traced Crohn’s disease to this bacterium while doing a project for the homeopathic master clinician course, which he directs and teach. He decided to get the bacterium homeopathically potentized and then prove the remedy. In 2002, he instituted a proving, acted as the master prover and supervised a group proving with a smaller than usual number of provers.
The physical symptoms echoed in the proving the dramatic mind and dispositional symptoms brought out by the provers.
Persecution
Crohn’s disease is common in Ashkenazi Jews. One of the provers, who was not a Jew and did not have much familiarity with the Jewish experience, felt as if she was in a “Second World War." This idea of being persecuted and even tortured (similar to feelings of drosera) came out in the mind and disposition from this remedy proving. Some provers temporarily felt or had a dream in which they were held prisoner by someone they knew or felt their husband was trying to murder them.
The patient needing this remedy may experience anxiety and torment, particularly about losing money or possessions. They can be quite conscientious, yet rather messy. There is much to do with collecting money or having to pay money.
Loss and Anxiety
Ailments after loss of money. Johneinium patients typically have their anxiety somatised in the body in the form of "tightness” in the abdomen and in other areas of the body. This is a marked symptom of Crohn’s disease.
There can be an internal feeling of hurriedness and restlessness.
You may hear the sentiments of patients who say, “Nothing we do matters." The patient looks and feels tired and anaemic. The crude bacterium takes iron from the host.
Digestive Symptoms
Characteristic pains of patients with Crohn's disease exist in the hypochondria and in the hypogastrium area. The provers felt a sensation arose as if there was a piece of wood above the transverse colon. In addition, there was diarrhoea alternating with constipation, frequent urging or frequent soft stools and also cramping pains.
Dr. Louis Klein has seen and can therefore affirm that this is a remedy to be thought of not only in Crohn’s disease but also in ulcerative colitis, irregular bowel syndrome and other intestinal diseases.
Look for the person can eat constantly, but only in small amounts.
Memory
Forgetfulness was a strong aspect in the proving and especially there was forgetfulness of names.
Attitude
A key theme of Johnenium, as demonstrated in a case, was that the patient put out an intense effort, particularly if it was driven by an injustice, but then this effort may alternate or end up with the individual giving up and acquiring a cynical attitude.
In the past, prior to having this remedy homoeopathically prepared, Tuberculinum bovinum was given in cases of Crohn’s disease. It would usually help but not in the deep way as Johneinum.
Louis Klein believes that Johnenium must be considered as a miasmatic remedy for Crohn’s disease, but there is a word of caution. When prescribing, as on may other occasions, there may be a remedy layer on top which requires a homeopathic remedy before underlying the miasmatic remedy can work properly.
Johnenium is not indicated in every patient with Crohn’s disease, but may be eventually considered as a miasmatic layer.

Louis Klein attributes many known remedies to miasmatic states. A miasmatic state becomes the core idea around which similar remedies are grouped. For example the Tetanus miasm comprises not only Tetanus nosode but also remedies like Hypericum, Angustura, Helodrilus and Tellurium. It is clinically linked also with tetanic syndromes, spasms or even convulsions. This new classification of miasmatic remedies is highly practical and opens a new chapter in homeopathy, demystifying and redefining the existing miasms, while adding several important new ones. It also introduces new remedies like Johneinum and Helodrilus, which he has proved extensively.
