I have seen many case of pcod which were cured with homeopathy. Therapeutic has a lot of medicine, but what I observed, if you go through constitutional medicine, you will get the best results.

Comment by Dr Shreya Deshpande on March 3, 2010 at 12:04pm: PCOD basically comes under sycotic miasm and many homeopathic remedies with sycotic dominance come into picture. As with other cases, there can be overlapping picture in many cases where the remedy selection matters the most that clarifies the portrait of the patient and helps us prescribe accordingly. Thuja, Pulsatilla, Iodum, Lycopodium, Graphites, etc are the baseline remedies; though many other remedies can be applied as per the constitution. Certainly Tuberculinum works great as intercurrent remedy.

One more thing is that while treating PCOD, homeopathic doctor must be aware of the investigations needed too. Rather, when PCOD is the prime reason for delayed and repeatedly failed conception, one must do ovulation study while treating the patient. I have seen that many homeopaths when it comes to clinical investigations, refer their patients to their other counter parts and that is not good. We must be well-equipped to deal with necessary investigations those may put us in the frame of good doctor by conventional mind set too. Also we get to know the great depth of action of our remedies for induction of ovulation in such patients where even modern medicines like Clomiphene citrate fails!

In addition to this changes in the lifestyle of the patient with proper diet control and excercise which lead to loss of weight and improvement of ovarian funtion should be done. A paper published by RCOG (The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) on "METFORMIN THERAPY FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF WOMEN WITH POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME" concluded that "while initial studies appeared to be promising, more recent large randomised controlled trials have not observed beneficial effects of metformin either as first-line therapy or combined with clomifene citrate for the treatment of the anovulatory woman with PCOS."
